Scandals Heiress

Review à Scandals Heiress 108 Characters Scandals Heiress Miss Hyacinth Grey has had a uiet life managing her father's household in Gibraltar Then she learns that she's heir to a small fortune left by her grandmother an infamous courtesan She sets sail for England with plans to found a charitable school for girls Her father warns her away from her fellow passenger aboard the Whistler saying that he's a black sheep from a family of scoundrels Thomas Pently alias Smithson made his. 35 stars I chose 4 since I have given way less charming books 4 That being said there were a few minor issues But because overall it was so delightful I forgave the author for these I both liked and believed in these characters Things were not over done or impossible Language use was good and I finished the book with a smile on my faceMinor early story spoilers aheadThis story takes place in 18051806 but our two leads Thomas and Hyacinth are not really of their time They have sensibilities that make them appealing to us now but are thankfully explained by their life experiences And in fact this was for the most part the strongest thing about the book With one major exception they are internally consistent characters They are both travelling home to Britain to possible inheritances Neither one of them fit the mold of what is expected of them and so they are able to forge a connection Once they arrive home her family and society in general frown on her history and eccentricities while his are basically overlooked This is in part due to their genders but also to their relative stationsHyacinth has spent a pivotal time in her life without her mother and away from British society She has been educated by her father beyond the norm and been exposed to things other young women would not have been She is independent in thought and has inherited enough to become so in actuality if she so chooses While not entirely naive about men she is not at all used to playing games So that makes her uite refreshing to us and to Thomas When he initially proposes it is perfectly sensible for her to refuse It did not just feel like someone delaying the inevitable to allow for a story to occur I liked her although she was not as interesting as ThomasThomas has been away from Britain for many years He is not connected to his family but has to go back to them His long term mistress is dead He is a man adrift And while her inheritance might set her free his could possibly sink him He meets Hyacinthe and despite his misery he finds in her something he would never have been able to find with his mistress She is bright educated witty and from the same culture His self reflection and desires made me adore him I found him to be uite skilfully drawnThings I did not likeFor the most part the regency aspect of this was gently but ably presented However the title he is both given and at the same time not given is poorly explained and wrong It was jarring throughout But it was minorMedium level spoilerMy biggest problem was with the sex scene I will give it points for being short and not exceptionally graphic I don t mind graphic but this is really not the book for it It was totally out of character and felt obligatory I could imagine Hyacinthe being curious and sneaking into his room But not for one minute did I buy that Thomas would have taken advantage of her curiosity Especially when he was leaving the next morning He already has experience of being gone from one woman for longer than he expected and having something bad happen He swears to Hyacinthe he won t do anything to make her pregnant and then immediately does the one thing that could leave her thus He has spent a lot of time thinking about his prior mistakes and it felt wrong for him to do this I think the strength of his passion for her could have been shown in another manner I wish Ms Smith had left it out and instead given us a bit about Thomas defending his decision to his mother

Review à Scandals Heiress 108 Characters Scandals Heiress They meet again in London where Hyacinth discovers Thomas's true identity Her fashion obsessed aunt reiterates her father's warning – Thomas can only embroil her in scandal Thomas's mother urges him to choose a bride fit for a duke – which Hyacinth most certainly is not Memories of their shipboard friendship and that stolen kiss draw them together again and again as they find their footing in an unfamiliar home country. Regency Romance DPlease be kind to the author it s basically her first historical romanceWhy the four starsBecause it definitely deserves than three There are just so many historical romances out there that are way worseConsidering that I must admit I loved itCharactersI loved our male MC He s uite the hero isn t one of those player types isn t really a rake but someone who actually commits I love that he wouldn t tell his wife what she has to do instead he would support her That s uite awesome for that timeOur female MC Well well I kinda liked that she didn t think too much about what society will think about her that she lives in the here and now and doesn t much care about social hierarchies Also love that she doesn t let a man dictate her life AwesomeDidn t like though that she gives into passion way too soon But at least she then shows that she has a backbone and asks him to back offPlotThe story was seriously cute The characters meet each other on a ship there is some chemistry in the beginning but no insta love It s rather slow burning but that was niceThere was a bit of suspense but I must admit that we are never really concerned we never really feel with the characters and are afraid of what will happen to them because there is not really a lot of action going on That s probably what I was missing a bitWriting stylePretty decent for a first historical romance No really liked it D

PDF/EBOOK (Scandals Heiress) Read ✓ eBook, ePUB or Kindle PDF É Amelia Smith I don’t read much Regency romance these days although at one point in my life I worked my way through the entire Georgette Heyer catalogue multiple times And Jane Austin remains a favourite I still have a soft spot for the genre but recent forays have been less than satisfactory – either too silly for words or too cavalier with historical accuracy I see no reason why a romance set in historical times shouldn’t pr
